Trip Overview

Experience the majestic beauty of the Manaslu Massif in this remote mountain trek. Hike along an ancient salt-trading route that runs beside the wild rapids of the Budi Gandhaki River and discover the primeval beauty of pine, bamboo and rhododendron forests. Traverse mani walls, explore monasteries and gain insight into a culturally fascinating region. We will see villagers still working the fields, constructing houses manually and riding ponies from one village to the other as their ancestors did for centuries. You will cross a breathtakingly high mountain pass, traverse glacial terrain and discover why Manaslu, the 8th highest peak in the world, is known as the mountain of the spirit which derives from the Sanskrit word Manasa which means “intellect” .

Manaslu Circuit TrekkingThis remote mountain haven and conservation area is home to the endangered snow leopard and was only opened to trekkers in 1992. The route has only just become possible to do as a teahouse trek, and is part of The Great Himalayan Trail. A spectacular alternative to the Annapurna Circuit or Khumbu region, the Manaslu Circuit is truly off the beaten track, and touted to be the new jewel in Himalayan trekking. This is a very diverse trek for those of above average fitness as some days will involve trekking for up to 11 hours or more, having said that getting fit by doing “stair masters” and some cardio work out before the trek can help make this adventure easier.

This whole trek is based on sleeping in locally-run lodges also known as teahouses which are comfortable but basic. We provide you with private rooms that are equipped with mattresses, pillows, bed cover and blankets. The toilets and bathrooms are shared, with a mixture of western-style and ‘squat’ toilets. Some villages do not have running electricity so the lodges in these villages will have solar-powered lights in the nights.

As food and lodging in this area are still relatively undeveloped, the food prepared by our trekking chef will be varied and very welcomed.

Client Reviews

Thanks Raj
You have personally made this such a fantastic trip - better than I was expecting. I especially loved all the little extra details - including the guitar playing and singing... the power of rock lives on!! I hope to see you in Oxford in 2006 and I'll try to look after you as well as you have done for me in Nepal.... or at least take you on a mighty big pub-crawl! Good luck with all future plans.
